Mr Tan Puay Jin is one of the few artists with very strong passion for arts. Since his very young age, he has started his exploration in art by molding mud. His affection in art continued during his school days with guidance from school teachers with artistic talents.

In the year 1957, he had pursued his study in Taiwan Provincial Teachers College, currently known as National Taiwan Normal University. During his undergraduate study, he had mastered painting techniques such as sketches, water color, oil painting and Ink Painting.

After his graduation, he had been teaching arts in educational institution for approximately 30 years. Today, Mr Tan Puay Jin, is one of the most influential artists in Malaysia, particularly in Muar.

Mr Tan Puay Jin has learned and used numerous techniques and methods in his 50 years of painting. As a result of his Chinese educated background and lifestyle, he is more passionate in watercolor and chinese ink painting than other methods. Using techniques such as ‘space’, ‘lines’, ‘gestural abstraction’, ‘smear’ and ‘splash’ paintings, his arts is said to be able to achieve an ‘unique state’ of beauty. As a nature lover, his interests are particular in painting ‘sunlight’, ‘flowers’, ‘meadow’, ‘algae’, ‘creeper’, ‘streams’, ‘insect’ and ‘bird’, to illustrate the melodies of life.
